In the swinger/non-monogamous lifestyle, it has been long said that an upside down pineapple was the secret handshake for identifying others that have a similar interest. Some have said that because of the State of Hawaii, the pineapple represented, or does represent, hospitality and welcome. Or that it originated in Europe to represent welcome. I mean I am sure that way back when it was very hard to come by a pineapple, so it probably was a representation of many things positive and fortunate. So, it makes sense then that at some point some people began to think that it represented a special kind of hospitality. There are other meanings for that upside down pineapple other than just swingers, but you can’t disagree with the idea that it represents hospitality, welcome, luck, and maybe even good fortune. I mean, it does seem to be a pretty fortunate thing to have the fun that lifestylers have. That upside down pineapple isn’t just about swinging though. It’s about appreciation of the people out there having the fun. It’s about connecting with others who can relate and that you have the opportunity to make a connection with.

Loofah color code for swing style.I was on TikTok the other day and ran across a new symbolism the other day. It seems that in Florida, in a place called The Villages, it is rumored that putting loofah on your golf cart or car means that you’re in the lifestyle. They even have a whole code for the type of swinging that you do based on what colors you use. This is obviously one friendly town. The other part is that it is mostly a senior citizen, 55+, retirement community. So, you would see these loofahs hanging off golf carts all over the place. Imagine seeing these roll down the street and thinking how you could make that hookup. Well, this rumor isn’t exactly new, but it was new to me. I also heard that they sometimes use pool noodles. Seems like a whole new meaning to “noodling”. And, for now, there is no truth to this rumor.

The people, and the community, have responded to this by saying that there is no truth to it. I believe them. I mean it makes sense that where there are all these golf carts, some will look the same. So, I would find a way for me to figure out which one was mine in the lot too. And that’s what it is. People are just trying to figure out how to find their car, or golf cart, in the parking lot. Whether it’s a loofah or pool noodle on the antenna, they are just trying to make sure that they are taking the right vehicle home. At least for now. I mean the upside-down pineapple in the shopping cart started out as a rumor too. I wonder if I will start seeing loofahs outside the lifestyle clubs.
